Three American Maple Shaker Ladder Back Rocking Chairs from Mt Lebanon New York.

SOLD

A rare set of three American Shaker, ladder back rocking chairs.

All three came together and are made from Maple.

The tall ladder back armchair, has a shawl rail to the top with a fabric webbed seat.

Retaining the original stamp to the back of the lowest ladder - 'SHAKER'S No 6 Trade Mark Mt. Lebanon. N.Y.

It has a '6' branded to the top back ladder, which represents its size.

Adjacent to the 6 is a label that reads ‘Mayflower 141’.

The trade marks were introduced to combat large furniture makers like L & G Stickley and other furniture makers who began copying their work.

Palm, Fechteler & Company of New York and Chicago made the printing blocks, from the late 1860s and 1870s.

Two are graduated children's rocking chairs without arms, the smallest child's rocker appears to retain its original flat weave seat, and it's condition throughout is worthy of a museum. The seat is in a delicate condition and would need replacing if it was to be used, the larger two have replacement seats which are fine to sit on. All three are tight at the joints with no restorations.
