Rupert Griffiths. English Furniture Maker.
Four Arts and Crafts style English oak cottage chairs with a sturdy tripod design, with through tenon and pegged construction to the lower back leg with squashed heart shape carry handle to the top backrest which at the bottom is angled and pegged neatly to the back leg and to the back of the shaped seat making them very strong.
Rupert Griffiths produced fine handmade oak furniture in Derbyshire England from 1946, based on traditional English furniture design and the Arts and Crafts movement. He sold his furniture through top retail stores, including Harrods, until 1968 and after that, he sold directly from his workshops.
All the furniture is made of solid, thoroughly seasoned oak and uses centuries-old handcrafting methods, with very distinctive designs that give style, strength, and finish not available in mass-produced furniture. His son Nigel continues to run the business.
