R. Whytock & Co. of Edinburgh. Stamped. A rare set of four high Aesthetic Movement walnut ebonized and parcel gilt side chairs with carved griffins' head finials. An unusual pair of artistic chairs with extensive incised gilded line and floral decoration throughout, and also to the stretchers.
Stamped R. Whytock & Co Edinburgh under the seat on all four chairs (one shown on the last images) as well as stamped production number 4498 on one, and production number 5142 on three.

Richard Whytock was a furniture maker in Edinburgh and started in 1838 under R. Whytock & Co. until the merge with John Reid in 1876 to form Whytock & Reid.
