A rare Arts and Crafts desk designed by Philip Tilden and Ambrose Heal, made by Heals of London. Philip Tilden was employed by Winston Churchill in the 1920s as chief architect to the renovation of Chartwell in Kent, Churchill's weekend residence when this desk was originally designed. Ambrose Heal then took the design and produced in small numbers for retail of which this is one.
Between the two drawers there is a secret long narrow drawer that is opened by a small wooden button hidden high up in the adjacent larger drawer.
The top has handy side flaps to extend the work area the base with twin turned column supports to each end, united by a flat stretcher.
