Orkney chairs have been made for hundreds of years in the same traditional way.

Designed to be a simple and functional piece of furniture, they were originally made from drift wood and straw found in local fields.

The chair is traditionally low to the ground to avoid smoke from the peat fires and the straw back would keep the heat in and protect them from draughts.
