Hector Guimard, Garden bench, a rare example retaining its original wooden seat.

POA

Hector Guimard. Garden bench, a rare example retaining its original Art Nouveau wooden seat. It is important to note that the original wooden seat and back show complete purity in its original intended design. Cast iron coated in white.

Examples with modern replacement seats and backs fade away from its conception and struggle to assert the ornate beauty within this design. It was designed between 1900 and 1905 and they were first produced by Fonderies de Saint-Dizier, Saint-Dizier, France 1905–1907 and then presented at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in Paris (Society of Decorative Artists), which was founded in 1901.

There are examples in the Musee D'Orsay with a modern seat and back. Inventory number OAO 624 1 and the Vitra Museum where the seat and back are not original. Inventory number MFR-1073.
