H W Batley or E W Godwin for Collinson and Lock attri. An Aesthetic Movement ebonized walnut armchair professionally re-upholstered in a Gold and Blue Damask. The spindle turnings to the back and how the arms are joined to the back rest including the splayed front legs and side stretchers with fine incised turned details are both typical of Batley and Godwin for Collinson and Lock. Batley was a pupil of Bruce J. Talbert, and he designed furniture for Collinson & Lock and James Shoolbred & Co.
