E W Godwin for William Smee. An armchair

SOLD

An armchair designed by E W Godwin with a stamped design registration mark for 24th March 1881 was exhibited in the Fine Art Society 1999 spring catalogue. The rather damaged armchair here has a Smee label which would suggest that these chairs may have been plagiarised or Godwin also sold the design to design to Smee or Smee made them under licence to James Peddle. See The Secular Furniture of E W Godwin by Susan Weber Soros page 131. Circa 1881
