E W Godwin attri. An Anglo-Japanese quarter sawn oak side table

POA

E W Godwin attri. An Anglo-Japanese quarter sawn oak side table. The top with a molded edge and a quite particular line carved detail Godwin has used on other designs around all four sides of the upper table skirt. The Japanese fretwork decoration below and particularly the knuckle style feet with subtle incised scrollwork carving also follows Godwin's Japanese style designs. The scrollwork feet are particularly reminiscent of the oak bookcases and a music stand that Godwin designed for Dromore Castle for The Earl of Limerick. The last image is of an ebonized variation of the same table with an inlaid top and extending sides a detail Godwin used on his Anglo-Japanese wall cabinets of 1877 and his early famous Anglo-Japanese sideboards with extending flaps to each side.
