Dr C Dresser. An important and probably unique Aesthetic movement black marble fire surround, with stylized bull rushes and floral incised gilded details. The incised bull rushes decoration conforms to an ebonized and gilded wardrobe Circa 1874, which is in the collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts, which was probably made for Bushloe House. There is also a gilded chair designed for Bushloe House, exhibited at The Fine Art Society in Bond Street, London, from the former John Scott collection with conforming decoration.
The fireplace is currently on loan to the Brohan Museum in Berlin, it was exhibited there in 2019 in the exhibition: FROM ARTS AND CRAFTS TO THE BAUHAUS. ART AND DESIGN – A NEW UNITY! Which is where the images in this listing are from. The exhibition ran from the 25th Jan 2019 to the 5th of May 2019. There is a catalogue that accompanied the exhibition which you can order directly from the museum where the fireplace is illustrated. The fireplace can still be viewed during opening hours. It was originally installed there as part of the exhibition and was retained by the museum on permanent loan and at present is on view on the ground floor, therefore the Brohan museum would need time to uninstall it ready for shipping.
