A top quality Irish School Arts and Crafts copper cup made by 'The Fivemiletown class' with stylised leaf decoration retaining it's unpolished chocolate colour patina. The Fivemiletown Class was a short lived venture established by Mary Montgomery and her husband Hugh de Fellenberg Montgomery in 1893 until 1913 when the company closed. John Williams who had been one of the principal metalworkers at the Guild of Handicraft (and later art teacher at Surrey County Council) visited the Class on numerous occasions and provided training as well as designs. Pieces by The Fivemiletown class are very hard to find and it is extremely rare to find signed pieces like this one. Height 6 3/4", Width including handle 8". 1892 - 1906.
