A rare late 19th-century Japanese export square dining table with four matching corner chairs that stow nicely away underneath. The base with four outer legs and a central leg is united by a high shaped cross stretcher. The four corner chairs with shaped backs and four legs are also united by cross stretchers. The table and chairs all have applied decorative brass plaques. The brass plaques are in the Aesthetic taste, engraved with birds amongst stylized floral decoration with stylized frogs below and various Japanese devices. With later cushions.
